Annual Well Woman Exams

Annual Well Woman Exams promote health, well-being and disease prevention.  Women’s healthcare needs change over the course of one’s life.

Adolescents

Adolescent girls should have an initial consultation before becoming sexually active to discuss birth control, sexually transmitted infections, HPV immunization, and for other sexual and reproductive concerns and questions.  Problems related to menstruation can be managed as well.

Peri-menopausal and Post-menopausal Women

Peri-menopausal women and post-menopausal women need an annual Well Woman visit in addition to the primary care visit for clinical breast exam as well as pelvic examination.  Annual mammograms are important for all women age 40 and over for early detection and treatment of breast cancer.

Women with History of Hysterectomy

Women who have had a hysterectomy need to have an annual pelvic exam and breast exam. A pap test is not necessary for women without a cervix; however, vaginal samples are taken if the hysterectomy was due to cervical or endometrial cancer. Annual mammograms are important for all women age 40 and over for early detection and treatment of breast cancer.
